about

Wonder what Bob Dylan thinks about the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum!. This was inspired by his early works.

lyrics

I woke up one morning the other day
Thinkin’, are we better out of the U.K.?
Everybody talkin’ ‘bout what we should do
But I hadn’t really thought it through
Will things get any better?
Being independent
Or will it just end in tears?

Couldn’t figure out which way to go
My heart said yes, my head said no
Some people said it’ll mean more tax
I decided I needed some hard facts
Do some research
Use common sense
Then make my mind up

I talked to family and talked to friends
Everyone’s split on what they’d recommend
Even the postman couldn’t give me no facts
Just junk mail he had in his sack
So I went to the library
To see if they could help
But it was closed, shut down

I read everything that I could find
Listened to the news, even went online
Everybody spoutin’ the usual sentiments
But no-one could agree it was just arguments
Depended on their agenda
Their point of view
I thought; no that won’t do

Well I knew the economy’s none too good
And that we ain’t got no Robin Hood
A lot of people saying we got oil
Loads of renewables on our soil
Some still tilting at windmills
Just like Don Quixote
And others gettin’ rich

My head was spinnin’ and I’d got a sore throat
Too much talkin’ an’ thinkin’ how to vote
My doctor advised to get some rest
It’ll all probably work out for the best
Just something goin’ around
Seems to be catching
Best to lie low

So I made my way home when I saw a crowd
Some guy on a soapbox shouting out loud
“We can all be Kings in the Land o’ the Leal
Who says that? Says I John the Commonweal
Don’t have to hang around anymore
For Divine Intervention
When you got self-determination”

It really stirred me up with all this talk
Then I hailed a taxi, felt too tired to walk
I kind of stumbled in and closed the door
The driver said “where are you headed for?”
Then it all went blank
I woke up on a hospital trolley
I’d suffered a heart attack

At least I survived that, can’t say that about the vote!
